Clearly, he wanted her to do something dumb to 'prove' herself to him; well, Annette wasn't going to play his game. She didn't need this mutt's approval, and certainly didn't need his vindication on any aspect of her life, thank-you very much. "If I haven't gone racing out into battles like you, it's only because I don't feel the need to prove myself to anyone. Or to myself," she returned, managing a fairly good job of sounding haughty, considering that she was still dripping mud. And if her skills did happen to lie outside the area of combat, well, it really wasn't any of Mooch's business in any case.
"If you're not going to do anything other than taunt me, I'll leave you and the mud alone to keep getting aquainted," she added snidely, turning her back on the older dog to head back to her tend - or, better, the water hole, get some of this horrible mud off her fur.
