(ooc: July 19th, around sunset. Open only to Boris and Collette.)
The day, suffice to say, had been rather uneventful for the cocker mix. It was back to the usual coming and going of heroes as they went through their days, seemingly on edge due to potential attacks from the various villains that had cropped up over the course of the war, and Collette was no better off than she had been before. Since revealing to her father that Scamp and Lady were dead, they had gone back to hardly seeing each other. This fact alone was enough to bother Collette. Much as she had tried to be supportive when their family was falling apart, it seemed all but impossible to do so now. So, in a way, she had given up waiting around for Tramp. He would come try to support them of his own accord, and Collette would just let it happen when it did.
At that particular moment, Collette was sitting near the entrance of the camp and looking out at the horizon. With nothing going on, or so little going on that there was no indication that things were happening, she had taken to spending time by herself. It gave her time to think. What was the purpose of life anymore? They would all have to die sooner or later, so why try to deny that fact? Was everything they were doing, in the end, meaningless?
"I just don't know anymore." she murmured. There had to be something she was missing. Some unknown purpose that she just hadn't been able to see until then. But what was that purpose? Did anyone really know? Collette would have liked it very much if someone could instill a bit of wisdom in her right then.

"Somethink the matter little lady?" A pet name for all the cocker sisters he knew- though where was that little scruffy one?-Boris padded next to Collette, tongue lolling out of his mouth, chuckling softly. "This weather, da? It is dreadful." He peered his long nose down towards the little lady and frowned. Something was clearly wrong with her. Since Toughy and Mayson had been found by him the old borzoi had been spending less and less time with the Tramp family. Seeing Collette made him remember that and the old dog decided to remedy that problem right then and there. He turned his frown towards the girl.
"Somethink is clearly th' matter," he said sternly, lowering his neck so his head was level with her's, "Come tell this old dog what is the matter, da?"

"Oh... hello, Mr. Boris." Collette greeted. Her greeting was a touch more melancholy than it probably should have been, but she'd had a lot on her mind and hadn't really considered how she sounded at the moment. She was glad to know, however, that someone had decided to come looking for her. It made her feel a bit better about how things were at the moment. "I was just thinking about the war, I guess. Mostly about how things are at the moment. I was wondering if maybe... everything we've done so far has been meaningless." Collette said. It was more like how life seemed meaningless right then, but it got the gist of her thoughts out clearly enough.
"I don't know... it just seems like there isn't a lot of meaning to anything anymore. Kind of like there's never anything going on. I guess... it's kind of hard to explain." she said. Did that even clearly get across what she was thinking? She wasn't entirely sure.

"Nothink is meaningless my little one." Boris thumped his large body down beside the cocker mix. Her gave her the warmest smile he could before looking up at the sky. "Everyone has a purpose," he said, "It may just be hard to find. This war is terrible yes but so many people have been brought together from all walks of life. From dogs meeting lions to humans meeting alien creatures. Everything is a design, a map." He winked at the brown eyed girl.
"You just have to learn how to navigate her."

Somehow, listening to Boris speak in this manner was quite comforting. The older dog seemed to know what he was talking about. That was probably because he had lived longer than her and knew more about life than she did. Still, she found herself interested in what he had to say. The idea that she could maybe learn to navigate the supposed map of life was very intriguing. Maybe, if she could learn to navigate it, she could figure out just how she was supposed to be helping her family out in the war.
"Do you think I could learn, Mr. Boris? How to navigate the map, I mean." Collette said. Learning that would be better than going around in a haze, anyway. Especially with Tramp off in his own little world and Annette showing her face less and less around her.

Boris chuckled softly and placed a gray furred paw around the little cocker. She seemed so young, so full of life and yet this war had torn her family apart. Nothing she should have seen at the age she was at. Nothing she should have seen in her entire life in fact. He kept his smile on his face but inside his heart was breaking for the cocker siblings and poor little Scamp who was up in heaven now. Tramp, THE Tramp, was a mess and Lady was nowhere to be found. The eldest, Collette seemed to be trying her hardest not to just give up. Boris was determined not to let that happen to the poor girl.
"Da," he said nodding his think muzzle, "You shall learn from Boris, ya? This old dog still has a few tricks to teach a willing student." He winked at her and looked up at the sky.
"The first thing we know is that the universe is a design. All those stars, all those clouds and sky, they've been here to teach us things." He pointed up at the sky. "You see the colors? The sun is setting, going to sleep if you will so the moon may have it's time to shine." His eyes twinkled.
"And does it shine," he whistled, "Now you must understand the connection to ourselves. We must learn to to be selfish, to take time out to help others shine bright like the moon." He shook his shoulders. "You understandink me?"

The little fluffy pup listened attentively, noting the colors of the setting sun and trying to make sense of it. So far, the discussion seemed simple enough to follow. Collette had almost expected something about trying to grasp the meaning of life. But, she supposed it was still a bit too early to expect something that grandiose from a conversation in which lessons were only beginning. Actually, she was a bit relieved by that fact. It meant that she wouldn't have to try and swallow anything too big to comprehend.
"So, what you're saying is that we should try to help others find what they're good at? Help them understand that they can shine brightly if they try hard enough?" Collette asked. It seemed to be what she had gotten out of the conversation thus far. Helping others didn't seem like such a bad thing to do, either. It did seem a bit simple, though. Was that all they really had to do?

Boris lowered and raised his head in a nod, tucking his long chin into his plush chest. "Da," he said, "Is somethink we can distract ourselves with. If you feel, for lack of a better word, useless in the war you can try to help others find their place. Perhaps those younger than you, perhaps even those older." The sun setting before him, Boris felt it was time for another philosophical show. Tail whipping behind him, he tilted his head slightly towards the cocker mix and pointed out the horizon.
"Like I say little one, life is full of things to discover," he mused, "I am not just talking about adventure of the physical kind, no, no. Adventure of the soul also lies within yourself. Come now, what are you good at?" He peered at her and waited patiently for an answer.

"What am I good at?" Collette echoed. That was difficult to determine. She was inclined to believe she was the most beautiful of her sisters, but that wasn't really a talent. She wasn't exactly booksmart like their mother had been, or particularly smart with trains, and she definitely wasn't streetsmart like their father. So what was there that Collette was better at than her sisters were and better at than her brother had been?
"I'm not really sure. I mean, I haven't really thought about it that much before." Collette admitted. Fluffy ears drooped a tiny bit from their slightly raised position and she frowned a bit. There had to be something she was good at. Something that wasn't just looking pretty.
