Mulan gave another sheepish little smile before becoming more serious again, although that expression didn't remain on her face for very long as Shang quickly brought up the number of times she'd 'kicked his rear'. She had knocked him down more than a few times once she'd got into the swing of the army lifestyle, hadn't she? She returned his grin. "Only because you were such a great trainer. And I'm sure you're making an even better general." Her tone was half-teasing, intended to fluster Shang just a little, and half truthful.
Recalling his mention of the kids, however, Mulan did sober again. Lowering her voice, her tone immediately more serious, she asked "Shang, why are children even being taught to fight? You aren't sending them into battles?" Most of the time she respected his judgement, of course, but... children in a war camp? She didn't like it at all.

Silver gives out a snort seeing how this training session was going no where and so far the children were the only ones mock fight at lest he hoped they were by the looks of little feline's attack he was't so sure. Silver limps over towards where Mirage and Jane stood. "i don't think we've meet" he strightens his hat with his good hand before switch out his mechical crutch to his hand function. "I'm John Silver who might you lovely lassies be hm?" the old ursid flashes a smile at the two women, back when he was younger Silver was quite the charmer.

Mirage recalled back to her time on Syndrome's facility once more, and remembered once watching the guards train. Most of their combat related training was how to use guns, but they did some hand-to-hand combat too. She supposed that trying some basic punches and blocks wouldn't be overly difficult. They could always ask one of the commanders to give them a push in the right direction later, and there was nothing wrong with starting at the basics. "How about this?" she suggested, turning away from Jane so as not to hit her, and throwing a mock punch at the air. It was a little clumsy, but she was working from memory and very little experience. "Then, I suppose you could block a punch like this," she continued, bending her arm and angling it so that it defended her face. "It's not much, but it's something, I suppose. And we don't have to be aggressive - we can take it slowly for now." Seeing the basics covered, she nodded. Mirage was nice enough to show her, she was grateful to the woman she was quickly considering a friend. She paid close attention, for the most part it was review. She supposed she could use what she'd learned from watching Tarzan. that combined with her agility should serve her well. After all, this was just a little sparring session, no need to get as nervous as she was. She nodded when Mirage finished, showing she understood. She prepared herself to fight when someone else came up. She looked at him for a moment, he seemed displeased with the lack of actual training going on in the training session. Not that she could blame him, Jane had done a good job of dragging out the training until the last moment. "It's nice to meet you John, I'm Jane, Jane Porter." She spoke, giving him a smile. However, she and Mirage should probably get to training before they angered either General Phoebus or General Shang, so she took an awkward looking fighting stance and waited for Mirage to strike. ((o.0 Really? and here I thought I wasn't doing her justice XP But thank you, that means a lot coming from you ))

If he hadn't held his cool he would have blushed wildly. Like a teenage boy with a schoolboy crush. He rubbed the back of his head, messing his black hair up just slightly. But when she asked him the question, he grew serious, releasing his lip from his teeth and lowering his head slightly. "They have been in battle before," he said his frown dropping, "Most of them have. Maybe hnot some of the new children." He peered at Abigail. "But they should learn to fight. We weren't out of childhood but a few years when we went to fight. Well I was...kind of..." He shrugged his muscular shoulders. "It might suck Mulan but what choice do they have? They came to fight. We're teaching them to fight."

"I was old enough to be married," Mulan protested, not ready to drop the matter. "Shang, we were all of age. These..." she shook her head. If it was their decision to get involved - and it sounded like it was that, rather than desperate conscription - she supposed nothing would keep them from fighting (not even the threat of ultimate dishonour and death had been enough to stopper her determination at the time), and it was better they were prepared, but she still didn't like it.
She couldn't argue with him in front of everyone, though, so Mulan reluctantly redirected the general's attention. There would be time later to persue the subject in private. "We were going to show them how to spar?" she reminded Shang.

Eilowny was a bit taken off by Abigail's attack, she did end up on the ground with part of her dress ripped and a few claw marks on her side. Ow. That really hurt. For a cat she had fire power. The blonde stood up and glared at the cat. "Not bad, Abby." she dusted herself off. "But that won't be good enough to defeat big enemies." she ran straight at the cat and aimed a kcik at her feet, hoping to knock her down or at least throw her off balance.

Mirage also smiled at the cyborg. "Nice to meet you, Mr Silver. My name is Mirage." She noted that Jane had taken up some kind of fighting stance, and realised that they would have to start fighting some time. Olive eyes flicked back to the cyborg. "I'm sorry, Mr Silver - perhaps we can talk more another time. Jane and I need to train - which we seem to have done very little of so far!" She smiled at him once more, then turned back to Jane.
Still feeling rather awkward about having to fight, Mirage copied Jane's stance roughly and raised her fists to spar. "Ok...I'm going to try and hit you," she warned. "Try and block it." She reluctantly threw a punch at Jane, but didn't put her full power behind it.

Shang pursed his lips, nodding his head. Mulan seemed to have a serious problem with the children fighting, a point he would agree upon if most of them hadn't already seen battle. He nodded his head and took a fighting stance. "Everyone pay attention!" He called out, "Everyone who isn't involved with a sparring match already." He peered at Abigail and Elionwy. They seemed to be sparring just fine with each other so he saw no need to interrupt.
"Come at me," he said, "Let's start this rematch out right, Ping." He grinned wildly at the mention of her previous name.

Mulan, too, couldn't manage not to grin at the mention of the name she'd gone under in the Chinese army, but before she could respond, someone behind her abruptly shot at the male. Turning to face whoever had almost put a bullet in Shang's foot, Mulan found herself staring at the creature's bizarre look. He wasn't like anything she'd seen around China - or even since joining the war, for that matter, and it seemed as though a long moment passed before she snapped her attention away from him.
"He was talking to me," she informed the cyborg rather curtly - did he think that because she was a woman, the general couldn't have been adressing her? She thought she'd left attitudes like that back in China.
Stepping up beside Shang, Mulan was about to draw her sword, before remembering that it had been hand-to-hand sparring that they had usually done - and that she'd picked up the tendency to beat him at. Quickly unstrapping the weapon and placing it on the ground so that it wouldn't get in her way, Mulan took up a crouching, ready stance opposite Shang, then starting with a side-of-the-hand chop towards his temple.

Then, all of a sudden, Yao came sprinting out of the mess hall. Late again. He was still munching of some of those weird bread things.... Croutons. "Wait!'
He came to a stop in front of Shang, saluting and holding that position, even though his body was so desperately wanting to slump over. He was a little out of shape. Well, being nothing but a guard tended to do that to people. BUt still, he remembered all of his training from the war kn China. "Yao, present and accounted for!"

Post by Gwen the... Squirrel? on May 7, 2012 15:42:29 GMT -5
Furry little head tilted from side to side as Arthur spoke to her and her alone. There was a beaming smile on the squirrel's face at the prospect of being the focus of her boy's attention, but that wasn't to say she hadn't been paying attention. A little shake of the head answered Arthur in the negative. "Don't 'ave those. Not one she," A claw went again to Squirrel's chest so that the boy would know she was referring to herself. "Can say like human-talk."
"'Names' ..." Squirrel made a low humming sound in her throat as one paw went to rest against her chin, the other propped on her side. Looking down with brows twisted together, the minuscule mammal turned to pace down Arthur's arm so that she could give the concept some deep squirrely thought. When she came to his wrist, the female looked up over her shoulder at Arthur. "How you get a name?"

"Yao, nice of you to-OW!"
Shang had been distracted by his soldier's arrival and forgot Mulan was throwing an attack at him. He shook his head and groaned. "Okay, okay," he mused, "Next time, troops make sure your attention is ALWAYS on your enemy, alright? Sheesh." He rubbed his head and grinned playfully at Mulan.
"Lucky shot," he teased. He started his own move, coming towards her with a swift attempt at a kick to the side. They never went easy on each other before. But that was when Shang thought Mulan was a guy.

Quite honestly, Mulan had expected that to happen as soon as she'd heard Yao's voice, but she'd already been too far into her move to stop before she'd hit Shang. She winced slightly at the fact that she'd caught him unprepared, but she'd learnt enough not to drop her guard because of that, in any case, and was ready to bring a wrist down to intercept the general's kick, which blocked it nicely, but still stung a little. Shaking that hand to dispel the discomfort, Mulan struck back with her other hand, aiming a swift punch towards Shang's jaw which she expected the soldier would probably block.
"Not underestimating me, are you Shang?" she teased back even as she threw the strike.

She reluctantly threw a punch at Jane, but didn't put her full power behind it. It was abvious the punch hadn't been intended to hurt Jane in any way, and for that she was grateful. She held her arms up and blocked it in time. She smiled slightly to herself, rather proud that she'd accomplished it, no matter how small of an accomplishment it was. It was still nice to know that she wasn't completely helpless. She could learn (after all, that was what she did best) with time. However she hoped she could do so soon. Glancing over to the general, she noticed he and Mulan were fighting. She wondered if she'd ever be able to fight like that. After all, Mulan was a woman, so there was no reason why, with a little practice, she couldn't be good too. However, she felt Mulan was strong in a way she would never be. Usually Jane was perfectly content with who she was, but being around so many wonderful fighters outside of Tarzan was unsettling. She didn't want to have to be saved all the time anymore, but compared to these people she seemed like nothing more than a damsel in a fairytale. She turned her attention back to Mirage and cursed herself for losing focus in the first place. As General Shang had shown, that was a horrible mistake. Still, she had her own match to worry about. Holding her fists up she hesitantly aimed a blow at Mirage. It didn't have much force behind it at all though, Jane wasn't trying to hurt anyone, at all.

Shang couldn't hide his school boyish grinning much longer. His mouth parted into a rather silly looking smile as he whipped his hands up, bracing one palm on the other and blocking the move from the petite woman. He had to admit she was good but she'd gotten that way through her cunning and his training. He nodded his head, smirk still on his face as he watched towards the girl trying to grip her hand in his. If he succeeded he's wrap her own arm around her, using her own body against her. Of course that would mean holding her close to him which was going to make him blush and probably drop his guard.
